A Legacy Immortalized: The Last Journey of Prof. Christopher Charles Benninger

Venessa Thomas

On 2nd October 2024 at India House, Pune, the architectural community came together to bid farewell to one of its most revered figures—Prof. Christopher Charles Benninger (1942 – 2024).

In a gathering marked by deep sorrow and reflection, colleagues, friends, and family paid tribute to the man whose visionary work shaped modern architecture in India and beyond. His presence may no longer grace the halls of CCBA Designs, but his spirit continues to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing him.

The final rites were performed with profound reverence by Managing Director, Mr. Ramprasad Akkisetti, who has long been by Prof. Benninger's side in both professional and personal endeavors. It was a poignant moment, symbolizing not only the loss of a mentor but also the continuation of a vision that transcends the boundaries of time. The rites were simple, yet infused with the same grace and precision that defined Prof. Benninger's architectural philosophy—a fitting tribute to a man who believed in creating beauty from simplicity.

As we gathered to honor his life, it became clear that Prof. Benninger’s influence extended far beyond his architectural contributions. He was a guru, a guide, and an inspiration to countless individuals, shaping the lives of those around him with the same care he gave to his projects. The overwhelming support from the community was a testament to the depth of his relationships and the love he inspired in those who were fortunate enough to share in his journey.

Though Prof. Benninger may no longer walk among us, his legacy endures. His spirit will continue to guide us—urging us to create, to dream, and to pursue beauty, purpose, and meaning. In us, his legacy shall live on. Watch the entire event on our Youtube Channel - Farewell to a Master Architect: Prof. Christopher Benninger's Last Rites
