The College Of Engineering is a 150 year old institute, a center of academic excellence in the country. The master plan of the campus was developed based on urban principles envisioned by Ar.Christopher Benninger.

The new academic building is the first building to start as per the integrated layout and becomes a successful insert into the intended ‘Image of the campuses by creating an ambience for knowledge generation and for imparting it to others.  The 22 m high building has an exposed concrete finish with built-in murals and stone Crete panels on the façade.

Its plan attempts to enhance and integrate itself with the strong natural features of the site, notably the riverfront, with porches opening into it. The structure consists of four storeys of classrooms, labs and faculty rooms with a riverside view. The ground floor has a 200 seater Auditorium and a 150 seater Computer Centre. North-south orientation of the building reduces heat gain and eliminates the need for air-conditioning.

Staircases and toilets block the harsh south sun. The site has existing trees which have been identified as ‘iconic’ and the values of these have been enhanced by creating courtyards and plazas around them. The building expresses an architectural language that serves as an ideal for future buildings on the campus.
